"How Would You Like To Be Remembered"

Post on: March 2, 2018

It is always heartwarming to read motivating stories which uplift us. They capture our hearts, set us thinking and create a desire within us to act positively.

The Jolly Good Times brings you stories which have been told many times but they never fail to warm our hearts each time:

This happened about 100 years ago. A man looked at the newspaper one morning and to his horror, read his name in the obituary column. The newspaper had erroneously reported his death.

He was consumed by utter shock! When he regained his composure, his first thought was to find out what people had said about him. He couldn’t contain his curiosity.

The newspaper headlines read, “Dynamite King Dies”. He was also given the moniker, “Merchant of Death”.

This man was the inventor of dynamite and when he read the words “Merchant of Death,” he was deeply concerned. He asked himself a question, “Is this how I am going to be remembered?”

He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. He decided to change the negative perception people had towards him.

From that day on, he started working towards peace. He is none other than Alfred Nobel. The Nobel Prize is synonymous with him. Today, Alfred Nobel is remembered as the inventor of dynamite. Moreover, he is revered as the man who worked towards peace and bequeathed his fortune to establish the Nobel Prize.

Alfred Nobel got in touch with his feelings and redefined his values. Can we do the same? How would you like to be remembered? Will you be missed when you’re gone? Will people speak of you with utter love and affection?

We may not be “movers or shakers” of the world with a cutting-edge invention to our name. Not everyone is endowed with talents to change the world overnight. Nor can everyone be accredited to a philanthropic cause like the Gates Foundation. However, we can leave behind something positive in our small ways … Volunteering our time and effort in a local orphanage is a fine example.

The Jolly Good Team will be bringing you a series of such motivating stories. They are a powerful read, can be grasped easily and leaves behind a message.
