"Abbreviation – Millennial Terms"
Post on: June 22, 2020
It is common to hear parents lamenting about not understanding their children’s lingo. They feel baffled when their kids sent them a handphone message with all the abbreviations. “Keeping abreast with youngster’s language used to be so much simpler in the good old days” is an oft-quoted phrase by the disgruntled older generation.
Lately, the word which has taken social media by storm is “OK Boomer”. Saying this is an astute way of rebutting an elderly person with a tinge of humour. An example — an older individual advises a millennial: “When I was your age, I would be roughing it up playing soccer instead of being cooped up at home staring the computer screen.”
The savvy millennial, instead of being apologetic, would counter, “OK Boomer!” Replying this is a retort which is cheeky and acceptable to the older person with a sense of humour. But a word of caution: Don’t try it on a no-nonsensical senior citizen.
